Hello Everyone. I hope all is going well with you and that everybody had a very enjoyable holiday season. This letter’s purpose is to inform you on our annual Midwest Regional Dek Hockey Tournament (Penn Hills Tournament), taking place as always at Greater Pittsburgh Dek Hockey Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Below I will list all of the information that Coaches and Organizations will need to be properly informed about our upcoming tournament this April.

About the Tournament:

                  -  Our annual Midwest Regional Tournament is the Largest Youth “A” Dek or Ball Hockey tournament in North America, with an average of over 30 teams participating every year, and is held in April (April 6-9th, 2017). We may also be having a 4-team Adult showcase as well, yet to be solidified.

                  -  Standard USDF Dek Hockey rules apply.

About The Facility:

                  -  Greater Pittsburgh Dek Hockey Center is located at 517 Twin Oak Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. About 15 minutes from the center of Pittsburgh.

                  -  Our facility consists of two standard sized Dek Hockey rinks, a 25yard indoor pool (Pool is free to use for children and family participating in the tournament under supervision from a parent).

                  -  GPDC is the proud home of the Penn Hills All-Star Program, which has produced over 80 United States Junior and Men’s National Ball Hockey Team Members from 1999 to 2017.

Tournament Dates:

                  -   Dates of the tournament: Thursday April 6th – Sunday April 9th, 2017.  Pittsburgh Teams please be willing and able to play THURSDAY, APRIL 6th!

                  -  Deadline for Signing up for the tournament is Saturday March 18th, 2017. (The sooner your team signs up, the easier it is for all parties.
)

Tournament Competition:

  • The Tournament is traditionally an “A” tournament. However we always suggest “B” and “C” teams to participate as well to experience the higher level of play.
  • ALL TEAMS will be in the same division. And have a chance to compete on Sunday.
  • My TOP PRIORITY w/ scheduling will be to try my best to have teams play other teams from different areas that they normally wouldn’t play. I used to do a ranking system and try to make it even competition wise, but I have been told that teams would rather play teams they never see. So I will be doing my best with this.

Tournament Upgrades and Features:

  • Tournament Stats and Scores that friends and families of players can stay up to date on line via our website. (As long as I get all rosters and everything early on, if not we will keep them and post them at a later date.) @http://greaterpittdekhockey.com/Leaguestatsbill.html
  • ROSTERS MUST BE TURNED IN by the DEADLINE Date so all the correct Players’ Names and Numbers can be featured into our Stats Program.
  • 1st PERIOD WILL BE STOPPED DURING ROUND ROBIN, HOWEVER, If we start to run behind schedule, we reserve the right to run the 2st period, Hopefully it’s a non issue.

Tournament Age Groups:

                  -  Penguin: 2007 – 2009 Birth Years.

                  -  Beaver: 2004 – 2006 Birth Years.

                  -  Cadet: 2001 – 2003 Birth Years.

                  -  Freshman: 1997 – 2000 Birth Years.

-Birth Certificates only required if opposing team requests them. So Team Manager or Coach please have copies.

Tournament Fees and Prizes:

-I am raising the price of the tournament just $25 dollars. Here’s why: Not for MY BENEFIT AT ALL. The refs have been asking for a pay raise for two years now, primarily because of all the grief they take from parents pretty consistently. And last year, we had almost zero complaints on refs and they did a great job, so I want to reward them by boosting their rate just a little. $25 dollars will not break any team’s bank, its about $1.50 more a player, and it will ensure I get the best referees again and we will have another tournament that has no issues with the stripes.

-The standard tournament fee for the Midwest Regional is $525 dollars per team.  -If an organization brings THREE teams, each team only owes $495. –If an organization brings FOUR teams, each team only owes $435.

  • Winning Teams in each age group receives Championship Jackets; Finalists will receive a prize as well.

Tournament Festivities:

                  - Merchandise (GPDC and Arsenal Hoodies and Shirts), will be on sale for the duration of the weekend.

- A weekend-long 50/50 will take place to help raise money for the Penn Hills All‐Star and Adult A-League Programs, and send one lucky person home very happy.

-Weather pending, possibly a hardest shot and stickhandling competition as well.
